March 8, 2023 – Tbilisi, Georgia
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Binance Charity – the philanthropic arm of Binance, the world’s leading cryptocurrency and blockchain infrastructure provider – announced a $100,000 donation to GITA (Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency) to support Web 3.0 education and training.
As a result of the partnership, more than 100 women will be able to take professional courses in Web 3.0 and receive support to enter the labor market.
Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity, said:
“We are proud of our new partnership with GITA, which aims to diversify the Web 3.0 industry by removing financial barriers to study and developing new courses. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are allocating 100 of the 180 scholarships available to women.
“Georgia is very advanced when it comes to adopting new technologies, and there is already a strong pool of talented women interested in innovation, including Web 3.0. We hope these scholarships will empower these women to pursue their passions and further strengthen Georgia as a hub for women in technology.”
This donation is the latest of Binance Charity’s efforts to empower women around the world through education and humanitarian projects.
To date, Binance Charity has supported more than 51,000 women in 10 countries and donated more than $3 million to women-only initiatives, including 36,215 scholarships.
In the five years since the nonprofit was founded, she has helped more than two million people, with a particular focus on addressing social issues that continue to disproportionately affect women, such as inequality, access to education, and poverty.
Binance Charity donations have been funneled into Web 3.0 education programs to support women and other underrepresented and disadvantaged groups to pursue vocational training as part of workshops and through higher education opportunities at top universities.
Among these programs are the following.
- The DLT Talent Program with Frankfurt Blockchain Center, already underway, to support 400 female leaders in the blockchain space
- Partnering with Women in Tech in Brazil, South Africa and Burundi, with funding to train 2,800 women in rural communities in Web 3.0 basics, develop entrepreneurial skills and support them into work
- Partnership with Utiva to strengthen Africa as a hub for tech talent by supporting 1,000 individuals – at least 50% women – to take professional blockchain and digital skills courses
These projects are part of the Binance Charity Scholar Program, which enables the next generation of Web 3.0 leaders to develop their skills, knowledge and experience without financial barriers.
As of June 2022, more than 80,000 applications have been submitted worldwide to study as part of this initiative.
Binance Charity remains committed to supporting innovative solutions for using Web 3.0 for social welfare with a focus on women, and continues to invest in research to find the most impactful ways to use this technology.
