‘The Residence’ Netflix Limited Series: What We Know So Far

Serves as Shondaland’s third major Netflix Original title The residence. Here’s the latest on everything we know about the upcoming Netflix adaptation.

As mentioned earlier, Netflix announced that it had acquired Kate Anderson Brower’s book rights in July 2018. It announced that it would continue adapting the series in March 2022.

Lawyer turned screenwriter Paul William Davies will serve as writer and showrunner for the series. His credits include projects like Scandal, CheatingAnd For the people. The residence will be part of Davies’ new overall deal with Netflix, where Shondaland also has an exclusive deal that was re-done after initially closing in 2018.

The residence joins Shondaland’s portfolio of series on Netflix, including hit period drama Bridgerton, returns this month for a second season, the Queen Charlotte spin-off and recently released Rhimes limited series invent Anna.

Lisa Johnson (The last of us) directs four series episodes.

The cast for The Residence has been announced in two waves so far.

First, in January 2023, Netflix confirmed Orange is the new black star Uzo Aduba would lead the cast.

Subsequently, another 11 new cast members were announced in February 2023

How many episodes will there be The residence?

Netflix has confirmed that The residence will contain eight episodes of approximately 60 minutes each. The series is listed as a “miniseries” in multiple locations, so don’t expect a season 2.

What is the production status of The residence?

that of Netflix The residence was in active development for most of 2022, meaning scripts were written and revised, then pre-production followed.

The series was shot in Los Angeles under the code name/working title of Falcon.

According to production sources, filming on the series will take place throughout much of 2023, with filming set to begin sometime in March 2023 and run through late September 2023.

What is the Netflix release date for The residence?

Netflix has not yet announced dates for The residencebut given the filming schedule, we expect it to launch around 2024.
