Walmart and Kroger closing locations – Best Life

While there are several grocery delivery services available today, many of us prefer to do our own shopping. Picking out products is often a pain, and if the store runs out of something you need, you can choose your own replacement instead of relying on someone else to go the extra mile. With that in mind, many dedicated in-store shoppers will be dismayed to learn that Walmart, Kroger and other supermarket chains are closing certain locations soon, with closures beginning this Thursday. Read on to find out when and where these supermarket giants are closing stores.

According to the Dayton daily newstwo Kroger stores in Ohio are closing on Thursday, March 9. The Krogers are located at the Pinewood Plaza Shopping Center on S Smithville Road in Dayton and Spinning Road Plaza in Riverside (a suburb outside of Dayton), about two miles apart.

Kroger buyers are in luck, though, as a larger store is opening to replace the two closing locations. The new Kroger sits among closing stores, on the site of a former Kmart, Per Dayton daily news. A grand opening is scheduled for Friday, March 10, just one day after the Smithville Road and Spinning Road stores close.

Dear life reached out to Kroger for comment on the closures and re-opening, but have not heard back yet.

Since February, Walmart has announced a slew of upcoming store closures, including two in Illinois, one in New Mexico and one in Florida, all closing before the end of this week.

Two stores in Portland, Oregon, are also slated to close for good on March 24. However, yet another closure will affect shoppers in Washington, DC

In a statement to Dear lifethe chain of stores confirmed that the Walmart at 99 H St. NW will close for good on March 31. The pharmacy closes early on March 17.

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our H Street location,” Felicia McCraniedirector of global communications at Walmart, previously told Dear life. “We look forward to serving them at our other stores in surrounding communities and at Walmart.com.”

Sprouts Farmers Market is also closing nearly a dozen locations this year, executives announced last week.

“As part of a recent review of the property portfolio, we expect to close 11 stores,” Chip Molly, chief financial officer for Sprouts, said in a March 2 press release. “The stores that close are on average about 30% larger than our current prototype and are financially underperforming.”

According to Winsight grocery news, Sprouts considered closing these stores in 2020, but ultimately took a different direction. “We made a conscious decision not to close those stores when the pandemic hit so that our communities would have access to fresh, healthy groceries,” Molloy said on a March 2 earnings call.

It’s not clear exactly where Sprouts closes stores, but once they’re gone, they’re gone for good. “You won’t see direct replacements coming into those regions in the future because they’re probably in the wrong place,” Jack SinclairSprouts CEO, said on the call, per Winsight grocery news.

For Sprouts fans, it’s worth noting that the company also has plans to open 30 new stores by 2023. “We are optimistic about our continued cash generation and ability to invest in our business for growth,” Molloy said in the press release.

The regional supermarket chain Stop & Shop also has a number of closures planned. The store in Highland Park, New Jersey, will close for good on March 23.

“Stop & Shop conducts regular assessments of its business performance and this store has been found to underperform relative to financial expectations,” a spokesperson previously told Dear lifeconfirming that no other New Jersey Stop & Shop stores will close.

But Massachusetts residents will say goodbye to a Stop & Shop store in Brockton, The enterprise reported. A spokesperson confirmed the closure Dear lifenoting that the company plans to keep the store open “until late summer 2023.”

“Stop & Shop has made the difficult decision not to renew the lease for our store at 932 North Montello Street in Brockton, Massachusetts because the store failed to meet financial expectations,” the spokesperson said. “All employees will have the opportunity to transfer to other Stop & Shop locations. Nearby Stop & Shop stores in Stoughton, Abington and Whitman look forward to welcoming Brockton customers later this year.”

Not even Amazon is safe from store closures as the retail giant closes eight Amazon Go locations, the company confirmed. On April 1, Amazon will close two convenience stores in Seattle, two in New York City and four in San Francisco.

“Like any brick-and-mortar retailer, we periodically review our store portfolio and make optimization decisions along the way,” an Amazon spokesperson told me. Dear life. “In this case, we have decided to close a small number of Amazon Go stores in Seattle, New York City and San Francisco.”
