WELL pharmacies reacted after one of its nationwide stores had to close last week due to staff shortages.
On Thursday (27 October), the Well Pharmacy in Bentham, North Yorkshire, had to close its doors to the community due to a lack of assistants.
A sign on the front door said: ‘The pharmacy is closed all day due to lack of staff. Open Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are sorry for your inconvenience.’ Another sign said there were vacancies for a part-time and weekend pharmacy assistant in training.
The pharmacy serves much of the rural area of North Yorkshire, with the nearest alternatives 20 minutes’ drive away in Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton or Settle.
Well has other pharmacies in Bolton-le-Sands, Lancaster, Kendal and Grange.
A spokesperson for Well Pharmacy said: “We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience experienced by our customers.
“Our management team has supported the pharmacy with some recent operational challenges.
“Closing any of our pharmacies at any time is always a last resort. We want to assure our patients that any closures are short-lived, we are committed to serving the community in and around Bentham.”
The Well Bentham lists opening hours Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.
