Biden Administration will allow air shipment of approximately 2,500,000 8-ounce bottle equivalents of the Nutricia/Danone Aptamil Gold Plus formula on Sept. 23
Today, President Biden announces that his administration is seeking a flight, facilitated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), for Operation Fly Formula to carry the Nutricia/Danone Aptamil Gold Plus formula from New Zealand to Chicago, IL. via a flight on September 23. This supply totals approximately 167,000 pounds of Nutricia/Danone formula, the equivalent of approximately 2,500,000 8-ounce bottles. The products will mainly be distributed to retailers.
In early May, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the agency is exercising enforcement discretion to allow Danone to export additional infant formulas, including Neocate Infant DHA/ARA and Aptamil First Infant Milk Stage 1. Danone plans to export approximately 39 million. 8-ounce bottle equivalents in the US market, which also includes their Aptamil baby food from Ireland and New Zealand.
President Biden launched Operation Fly Formula to accelerate infant formula imports and get more formulas into stores as quickly as possible. Under Operation Fly Formula, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Department of Defense (DOD) are working together to collect foreign infant formula that meets U.S. health and safety standards so it can hit store shelves, hospitals, and home health care providers faster.
