CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Scarowinds now requires ID for entry and an adult chaperone if you are under 18.
Carowinds told WBTV they implemented the new rules Friday night.
A chaperone must be 21 years old and may not bring more than four children to the park.
The new rules come after rumors of a shooting sparked chaos last weekend.
Carowinds and law enforcement later dispelled the rumors. Carowinds said it was an “unruly” group of children that caused the panic.
“It should have happened much earlier. A long time ago,” said Kaitlyn Perry, a former Carowinds employee who retired after last weekend.
“Children under 18 have a tendency, I wouldn’t call it a reckless activity, but it’s a lot of unseen and unheard of things that happen that parents don’t know about,” explains Adrienna Tensley, who took her child to Carowinds on Friday.
“They can keep their kids in line and they’re in charge of their kids and if disciplinary action needs to be taken, they’re the ones who do,” added another mother, Ashley Duncan.
Scarowinds hopes chaperones, along with his guards, video cameras, and a no-re-entry and no-bags rule, will keep the park safe.
