FARGO — Two women are shocked after they say they were followed by suspicious men at the Walmart on 52nd Avenue South in Fargo.

On Wednesday evening, the women said they were out shopping when four men began following them and taking photos.

The two were then helped by store employees, who eventually escorted them to their car.

“I tied my two-month-old son to me. She’s pregnant (…) I’m so grateful we caught it. I don’t know what could have happened if we hadn’t,” said one of the women . who wished to remain anonymous for her safety.

WDAY met them on Friday, September 23, after one of them posted on Facebook to warn others.

The message was made by a woman who was being tracked at Walmart.

They say they were followed practically everywhere in the store. In the baby aisle, the grocery store and everywhere in between by men ranging in age from early twenties to late fifties.

The women say the men pushed empty carts to look like shoppers before following them to the checkout.

They attribute their own alertness, to escape the situation.

“They stare at us, look at each other. We panic and we don’t know what to do,” said the other woman.

According to the Fargo police, the women did everything almost perfectly.

“You have to be aware of your surroundings. You have to know who is around you, who is following you, a place to go when you need to go somewhere. Have a plan,” said Lieutenant Commander Bill Ahlfeldt of the Fargo police. “And it seems this person did. So she handled that correctly.’

Their only fault? They did not call the police.

“I think it probably crossed their minds. Should we call the police or not? Always call the police. If you need to ask yourself that question, call. And if there’s nothing we can do, we can say ‘I’ll give it to you If we can do something, well, we will,” Ahlfeldt said.

WDAY News contacted Walmart to verify the story, but has not heard back.
