OKLAHOMA CITY — Delta Dental of Oklahoma is ushering in the new school year by providing free educational resources to classrooms in Oklahoma. As the leading and only nonprofit provider of dental benefits, Delta Dental of Oklahoma has two oral health education programs, Captain Supertooth and MouthScience, available to educators and students in Oklahoma through the Foundation.

“Promoting positive oral hygiene habits is paramount to giving children a lifetime of good oral health,” said Terrisa Singleton, director of the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation. “Our Captain Supertooth and MouthScience programs empower Oklahoma youths to care for their teeth.”

Cavities are one of the most common chronic infectious diseases in children in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Left untreated, tooth decay can lead to inability to eat or chew properly, discolored and damaged teeth, and significant pain that can distract children from playing and learning. Tooth decay is easy to avoid, and Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation’s Captain Supertooth and MouthScience programs motivate children to participate in preventive practices to maintain and improve their oral health.

Captain Supertooth is a dental education program available to Oklahoma Pre-K through third grade students. This superhero mascot is available for personal or virtual performances.

MouthScience kits help illustrate the acid and sugar levels in common drinks, encouraging kids to make healthier choices to better protect their teeth. Each MouthScience kit contains all the supplies Oklahoma’s third through sixth grade teachers need to facilitate hands-on science experimentation, in line with Oklahoma academic standards, in their own classrooms. To request a kit today, go to DDO Foundation. org/MouthScience.

Both the Captain Supertooth and MouthScience programs are available for free to teachers and students in Oklahoma. All students who participate in either program will also receive a free toothbrush to help maintain their oral health.
