Vignerons return for wine tech field day in Milawa
Some 95 regional vintners from Northeast Victoria took part in an AgTech field day at Brown Brothers Milawa last week.
Growers from all regions were represented, including Beechworth, King Valley, Alpine Valley, Rutherglen, Glenrowan, Central Victoria and the Strathbogies.
Companies displaying their products included AME group recycling syringes, under vine management equipment and canopies; Swan Systems Irrigation Software; Aussie Wine Group infield de‐stemmer; Smart application of variable speed sprayer and selective herbicide unit for green seeker; EE Muir ‐ laser scarecrow, nutrition and disease control; Hybrid Ag Nutrient Solutions; Bitwise Agronomy ‐ growth analysis and shoot counting; Onside ‐ visitor check-in systems; and Clement ‐ among vines.
The field day was designed to highlight the possibilities of using technology to build vineyard resilience in a changing climate.
Disease prevention, efficient water use, labor management and nutritional solutions were the main focuses of the day.
The Field Day was organized by the North East Wine Zone (NEWZ) in conjunction with the Victorian Government, North East CMA, the Australian Government and Agbiz Assist.
NEWZ President Rob Hawkings said the day was well supported and it was good to see grape growers and winemakers come out to meet their industry peers, while giving a taste of the latest technology for the wine industry.
“It’s been so long since the industry has come together that we felt that organizing an Agtech day would be well received,” said Mr. Hawkings.
“We’re excited to see the turnout.”
